Outstanding athlete from Poteau High School Aiden Sockey exemplifies leadership and commitment both on and off the field. Aiden is a standout football and baseball senior who is respected by coaches and teammates for his abilities as a shortstop, catcher and right-handed pitcher.
Aiden’s impressive performance extends beyond the field to his statistics, showcasing his prowess as a baseball player. With a batting average of .310 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .385, Aiden consistently contributes to his team’s offensive success. Throughout the season, he accumulated 18 hits, including two doubles, displaying his ability to make meaningful offensive plays. Aiden’s defensive skills are equally commendable, evident in his fielding percentage (FP) of .853, highlighting his reliability in crucial fielding situations.
When asked about his aspirations, Aiden confidently stated, “I’m getting ready to play ball at the next level.”
Reflecting on his influences, Aiden acknowledged his father’s pivotal role. “My dad has taught me how to play the game and how to be a man and a leader.”
In the academic realm, Aiden credits Mrs. Valerie Odom for making a significant impact on his life. “I think Mrs. Odom has had a big impact on my life because she’s always been so positive about teaching.”
One of Aiden’s standout performances was a stellar pitching game against Sallisaw, where he recorded 15 strikeouts with zero walks in a complete game, leading his team to a 4-1 victory. “It was a great feeling to beat Sallisaw because they are our rivals.”
When it comes to facing challenges, Aiden appreciates the competition provided by teammate Dax Collins. “I like working against Dax Collins because he makes me a better player and keeps me in check,” Aiden explained. He also praised a fellow teammate for hard work that may go unnoticed: “Calloway Warren, he puts a lot of time into it and never gets appreciated for what he does for the team, on and off the field.”
Aiden’s involvement in organizations like NHS, JOM and OISHS reflects his commitment to excellence beyond sports. Looking ahead, Aiden plans to attend Seminole State College to play baseball and pursue a degree in education.
For Aiden, playing for Poteau holds deep significance. “It means a lot to me. I grew up watching my dad coach Poteau, and I always wanted to be the one playing.”
