Poteau Public School is proud to announce Jake Hayes as the next Head Football Coach for the Poteau Pirates. Today at noon our Board of Education unanimously approved the hire of Coach Hayes. Coach Hayes comes to Poteau after four years as the Offensive Coordinator at Deer Creek High School in Edmond, OK compiling a record of 37-12. While at Deer Creek, Coach Hayes’ offenses averaged 38 points per game vs. 6AI and 6AII competition while also boasting a State Finals Appearance in 2021, two Semi-Final appearances in 2022 and 2023, and a Quarter-Finals Appearance in 2024. Coach Hayes helped mentor two quarterbacks to 2500-yard passing seasons during his tenure at Deer Creek and oversaw an offensive line unit that produced multiple 2000-yard rushing seasons. In 2023, Coach Hayes was named to the inaugural class of the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association 35 under 35 award for his leadership and accomplishments in the coaching profession. In the same year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes also named him an All-State Coach. He is passionate about using the sport of football to create young men who are tough, positive, and pursuers of excellence in all that they do in this life.
