Poteau wrestlers continue to write another chapter of Pirates wrestling history as the 2024 lineup has earned the opportunity to compete for the OSSAA Class 4A Dual State championship this Friday at the Stride Bank Center in Enid.
The Pirates squad is young but determined to prove they deserve to be in this week’s Class 4A field.
“We only have two seniors, so yes we’re young but from top to bottom, this is a group that understands what’s required to be a championship level team,” said coach Matt Kennedy. “Poteau has only qualified for the Dual State tournament once before and that was 25 years ago (1999). I’m so proud of the efforts of everyone on this year’s team.
Ranked number-7 entering the Dual State event, Poteau advanced to the eight team field after sweeping the Class 4A-7 duals with wins over Broken Bow (84-0), Stilwell (72-12), Locust Grove (78-6), and Fort Gibson (39-24).
Poteau will take on top-ranked Tuttle in the opening round Friday morning at 10am.
