Kyjia Jenkins, a dedicated cheerleader at Poteau High School, exemplifies the essence of teamwork, hard work and the pursuit of personal growth. Her journey through cheerleading and her aspirations for the future highlight her determination to excel in both academics and athletics.

When asked about her favorite coach, Jenkins mentioned Valerie Odom.”My favorite coach is Valerie Odom,” she said. “She has always been supportive, and I know she would do anything for me.” 

Teammates play a significant role in an athlete’s journey, and Jenkins expressed admiration for her teammate Jaylee Tackett. “My teammate Jaylee Tackett… She is just a harder worker, and I admire her for that.” Their shared history in gymnastics and cheer has created a strong bond and a foundation of mutual support.

In the realm of academics, Jenkins’ favorite teacher, Mrs. Smith, left a lasting impact by showing her respect and kindness. “Her kind words made a huge difference in my daily life.”

Preparation is key in cheerleading, and Jenkins diligently worked on advancing her skills during the off-season. “During the offseason, I took tumbling classes to help advance my skills for this season.” 

Jenkins shared valuable lessons she has learned through cheerleading: “Cheer has taught me to work hard every day and to not give up even when frustrated.” These lessons extend beyond the mat and are applicable to her daily life.

Reflecting on her favorite memory in cheerleading, Jenkins fondly remembered a bonding experience during a basketball game: “We all had a lot of fun and bonded.” Such memories are significant to the camaraderie and friendships formed through sports.

As she looks forward to the upcoming season, Jenkins has both individual and team goals in mind. She hopes to achieve more advanced stunts with her group and improve her tumbling skills.

Jenkins is eagerly anticipating the Broken Bow game this season, hoping for a strong performance and a potential victory. Beyond high school, her plans involve attending the University of Oklahoma and pursuing a medical degree, reflecting her commitment to a successful future both in academics and cheerleading.
